It's our anniversary! Actually, it was last week, but who's keeping track? So, on that lovely, super-fun, Johnny Walker Blue fueled, happy day when the hubbie and I said our 'I Do's' and partied with loved ones till the wee hours of Monday morning, I got to wear this beautiful, made-to-order gown designed by Meiling Esau.
I've been a fan of the Trinidadian fashion maven's work for as long as I can remember, and there was absolutely no other person I had in mind to make a Wedding dress for me. I wanted something in Voile, Eyelet Cotton/Anglaise and Lace - something floaty and drapey - and she worked up this piece, complete with a light dusting of pearl-beading on the bust-line.
Talk about a happy Bride!
The only thing that didn't make me happy on that day was the long-ish, dragging hemline. Especially since our cocktail reception was held on a scenic hilltop Fort, where the grass was still damp from past rain showers. I tripped a few guests, not to mention stumbling over the hem myself and getting it all grass and mud stained in the process.
Add the fact that I almost lost my head in the ceremony (coming down the aisle, my sweet sister/Maid of Honour stepped on my veil and hem, causing me to agonizingly lurch backward in slo-mo) and you'll get an idea of how much of a nag the hemline was!
So for a better part of the reception, I wore the dress as I did above, with the hemline twirled and tucked below the pearl beading at the sides of my waist...
