Over the years, January 1st has met me in a variety of very random situations. I've rang in the New Year at Midnight Mass in Port-of-Spain; on the no-entry side of the Time Square 'Ball Drop' barricades; sick in bed; eating traditional blackeyed-peas-and-rice back home in Trinidad; working on-air numerous times during my broadcasting days...
They've all been memorable in their own way, even that freezing Times Square moment (which was more of a last-minute catastrophe than a celebration). However, none beats meeting 2012 with my dearest husband, Dr. Professor, and my favourite aunt-cum-liming partner, AJ, on Grand Cayman Island.
Sand, liquor and beers, ole' talk, fireworks along the Seven Mile Beach, warm surf... Talk about the best way to greet the New Year. And really, what else could one ask for?
Post Jan. 1st, SMB transformed me into an unofficial beach bum, with straw hat, sunglasses, and sand in my dreadlocks to finish off the look. I literally spent almost EVERYDAY on the beach, just lazing by and reading whilst the rays turned my skin back to its natural, West Indian brown tone.
Which leads me to this side note: if you want truly radiant and smooth skin, get thee to a Caribbean island and live by the sea. The highly saline water plus a little bit of sun bathing (with sunscreen, of course) is the best cure for nasty winter skin. I swear...
More on Cayman to come!
